EVANSVILLE MEMORIAL LADY TIGERS TO HOST 9/11 TRIBUTE MATCH ~8/31/10~
Nine years ago our country was attacked by terrorists. Our citizens and country changed that day. The attack did not single out special interest groups, nor did the terrorists make any distinction between race, religion or political group. The collective WE was attacked. In the nine years that have followed, much has happened, some of which has not been pretty. We still disagree over most every issue, including how we should respond to terrorism and how we should live our lives in a time of war that has unfortunately become a part of life in this new world. As we wade our way through these troubled waters, we reach out for life preservers. We search for constants and comforts.
One thing that we can all agree upon is that the reason we are able to disagree and the reason we are able to go about our daily lives as normally as we do is because of the heroes in our midst. First responders, police and fire professionals were with us on 9-11 and have been there ever since. Our military, every day, 24 hours a day, has our back. While we are at home, these individuals defend our rights, our freedom and our liberty. They do not get to watch their children play soccer for they are in far off lands performing tasks that we can barely begin to imagine. Often times these heroes perform their work without seeing and hearing the thanks of a grateful nation. We take them for granted.
Well, on Saturday, September 11, 2010 you have a chance to say thank you. You owe these heroes a handshake, a pat on the back and a thank you. It is the very least each of us can do as we remember the fallen and remember that we are the land of the free because of the brave.
Please read the attached invitation and strongly consider attending Reflection Saturday at University of Evansville’s Black Beauty Field. You will see some beautiful soccer, but, more importantly, you will have an opportunity to say thank you to a group of true heroes. Gate receipt proceeds are benefiting needing familieS
