  • 3/10/08: The 1992 Indiana Boy's State ODP team capped off a remarkable run through the region and National ODP Championships by bringing the title home to Indiana, the first title for any ODP team.  The Indiana 1987 boy's State team was the first and last to compete in the ODP National Championships back in 2005, finishing 3rd. The 1992 boys defeated North Texas in the semifinals 3-1 and then downed Virginia 3-2 in the final.  In both matches, Indiana came from behind for the championship.  North Texas lead early 1-0 and Virginia led 2-1 at halftime. The Indiana team was coached by Kelly Findley who is also the Butler University Men's Head Coach. Congratulations boys on a great accomplishment!  NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
  • 2/15/08: Stuart Amick (UMASS/Lafayette Harrison/Carmel United) and Rich Balchan (Indiana/Carmel/Carmel United) are on the 23-man roster for a domestic training camp in New Orleans from Feb 19-24.  The entire roster is made up of current college players from throughout the U.S where the team will play two games in a four-team event. On Saturday, Feb. 23 the U.S. will face the Honduras U-20 MNT, and on Sunday will face either the New Orleans Shell Shockers or Victoria, a youth team from Honduras. The two Saturday winners will match up on Sunday, while the losing teams will meet in a consolation match.  Harrison Petts (Zionsville/Carmel United) is among the 72 players coming to Bradenton, FL for the U-18 National team Mega-Camp. Congratulations guys and good luck.

  • 2/14/08: The Class of 2008 is steadily increasing the number of college committments and National Signing Day was recent proof of that.  There are (24) confirmed signees for the boy's Class of 2008, with (16) of those being Division I schools.  On the girl's side their are (40) signees and (24) of those are Division I schools.   • 2/11/08: USL W-League’s FC Indiana and Chicago Professional Women’s Soccer of the newly formed WPS have joined forces to grow the sport of women’s soccer in the Midwest, the two teams announced today. FC Indiana, that will play its 2008 home games at Purdue University and at Kuntz Memorial Stadium in Indianapolis will be the Exclusive Development Partner and the Official W-League Affiliate of the yet-to-be-named Chicago franchise, which will begin play at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois in 2009 as part of the new top level professional women’s soccer league.   • 2/11/08:Four new members have been inducted into the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame.  Bonnie Dale, G.K. (Joe) Guennel and Nel Fettig Hayes were inducted into Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame on Saturday.  The 2008 Merit Award Winner was Chris Christoffersen. Currently there are 47 members of the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame dating back to the first class in 1992. Congratulations to this year's honorees and thank you for your contributions to our great game!

  • 2/9/08: The Region II Coaches Program in cooperation US Soccer is conducting their annual Coaching Symposium at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.  The program will be held indoors at Olscamp Hall on Friday, February 29th and at the University Fieldhouse on Saturday and Sunday, March 1ST and 2nd .The program will end at noon on March 2nd.  This Regional Symposium is being jointly sponsored by Region II, adidas, Ohio Youth Soccer Association-North and Ohio South Youth Soccer Association, in cooperation with Bowling Green State University.  2 CEU’s will be awarded for attending the symposium. The purpose of the program is to delve into non-traditional aspects of coaching.  Current and Former members of US Regional Coaching Staff and others will give both practical field sessions and classroom presentations.  In addition, reports on regional and national teams will be presented.                     Courtesy of Region2.com
  REGION II SYMPOSIUM

  • 2/3/08: The USYSA National Championship Series will begin for Indiana teams on May 17th and 18th at sites around the state. The top 16 teams in each age group from Under 13 to Under 18 will face off on May 17th and 18th, with the finals weekend taking place May 30th and June 1st.  Finals weekend will be hosted by Hefner Park in Ft. Wayne. The Under 19 State Cup has not been released yet and will take place at date yet to be determined. Last year's highlight of the National Championship Series was the National Championship brought home by the Carmel United U19 team.  Who could be next?STATE CUP GROUPS

  • 1/26/08: The new Indiana Champion's League is set to debut this March in Indiana.  The league will start off with three charter clubs, Ft. Wayne Fever Academy, Dynamo FC and FC Pride. The three charter clubs will be opening the league up to new clubs in the Fall 2008 season.  The pilot season will start with teams at the U9-U12 age groups for both girls and boys.  Each club will commit at least one team from each gender and each age group to participate. Clubs joining in Fall of 2008 will also be required to join as a club.READ MORE

  • 1/11/08: UCLA's Lauren Cheney (Ben Davis/Carmel United) has finished as 1st runner-up for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy.  Cheney was beat out by Florida State's Mami Yamaguchi, a senior for the national champion Seminoles. Cheney picked up another national player of the year award, as the Bruin sophomore was named the nation's top player in 2007 by Soccer Buzz Magazine. It marks the second such honor for Cheney this season, as she was also named Soccer America's National Player of the Year earlier this month as well as being named Player of the Year by Soccer Buzz.com. Cheney is widely considered one of the very best young female players in the United States.

  • 12/19/07: The ISCA (Indiana Soccer Coach's Association) All-District Showcase weekend wrapped up on Sunday afternoon at the Fountains in Carmel.  North Central High School hosted the games on Saturday and Sunday morning as well as the All-State General meetings that took place.  A Special thanks to Jerry Little and the people at North Central for making it a great weekend.  Special thanks also go out to Xara and Soccer Village for outfitting the players in uniforms for the first time in the district games format.Sunday afternoon at the Fountains Banquet Facility in Carmel proved to be an exciting one.  In one of the most wide open races for player of the year, Mitch Day of Evansville Memorial and Ashley Auld of Noblesville took home the white and red, #1 Indiana Jersey.  Mitch Day of Evansville Memorial is coming off a state championship with Memorial and is uncommitted at this point.  Auld is a Louisville recruit and 3-year starter for the Millers.   • 12/13/07: The High School season may be over, but Indiana teams are still on the rise in the NSCAA National Polls as other teams continue state tournament play throughout the country. Boy's state champion Evansville Memorial held it's ground for the third week in a row as the #1 team in the country.  Chesterton, which lost to Memorial 1-0 in the state final moved to #5 in the region 5 rankings, just one spot away from making it into the national poll.  Cathedral made it's first appearance in the national poll at #25.  The Irish won the girl's state championship, a 4-2 result against Penn High School.  Penn and Bishop Dwenger were ninth and tenth respectively in the region 5 poll where Cathedral was fourth.  For more, click below.NSCAA NATIONAL RANKINGS

  • 12/12/07: Registration is open for the US Youth Soccer adidas Workshop on February 7-9 in Pittsburgh at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Register now and save 50 percent through December 14. The event, the largest of its kind for youth sports in North America, features more than 90 educational workshops and demonstrations for administrators, coaches, referees, parents and soccer enthusiasts.   • 12/10/07: Perry Kitchen (Roncalli/Chicago Magic) helped lead the Under 17 National team last weekend against Brazil, Russia and Turkey in the Nike Friendlies at the IMG Academies in Bradenton, Florida.  Kitchen went all 90 minutes in the wins versus Russia (2-0) and Brazil (2-0).  Kitchen started in the center defense for the U.S., a defense that was most impressive against a very talented Brazilian side.  A total of 54 teams competing across the Under-15/16 and Under-17/18 age groups participated in the 2007 Nike Friendlies.  Carmel United's U16 Academy team and U18 Academy team also participated.  The U16 team went 1-0-2 while the U18 team went 0-3-0.READ MORE

  • 12/8/07: The UCLA Bruins led by sophomore Lauren Cheney (Ben Davis/Carmel United) fell short in the NCAA Women's College Cup on Friday. UCLA lost to cross-town rival USC, a 2-1 result.  Cheney set a UCLA record with her 23rd goal of the season in the loss. USC will now face Florida State in the NCAA final. 

  • 11/20/07: The Indiana Wesleyan University women’s soccer team won the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national championship Monday by defeating Spring Arbor University 3-2 in overtime. The Wildcats (21-2-1) earned an early lead in the second minute as freshman Errika  was fouled in the penalty box. E. Comerouski made the ensuing penalty kick to give IWU a 1-0 advantage. Claire Comerouski made the score 2-0 in the 20th minute. Spring Arbor scored a goal just before half to cut the lead to 2-1. The Cougars came out strong in the second half scoring in the 55th minute to even the score at 2-2. The teams fought to a 2-2 draw to end regulation. It took just four minutes of overtime for the Wildcats to claim the national championship. Claire Comerouski scored her second goal of the night from just outside the penalty box lofting a shot over the Cougar goalkeeper for the game-winning goal. IWU sophomore forward Carly Comerouski was named NCCAA National Tournament Most Outstanding Player and part of the NCCAA All-Tournament team. Wildcats’ Sydney Bobo, Gretchen Breckner and Claire Comerouski were also named to the NCCAA All-Tournament team.

  • 11/5/07: The Indiana Soccer Coach's Association has released the 2007-2008 All-District Teams.  The All-District Showcase games will be held November 17th and 18th at North Central High School in Indianapolis. Xara, Soccer Village and Custom Embroidery Indiana are this year's sponsors.  Xara will be outfitting every player in a brand new uniform for the weekend games.  Soccer Village, a partner with Xara will also be providing items to the teams and coaches who are participating.  Custom Embroidery Indiana will be customizing all uniforms and providing showcase t-shirts all weekend long. The ISCA holds district meetings throughout the state the Sunday following Girls Sectional  Championships, and Boys Regional Championships October 14th for 2007. All member coaches of record (membership deadline for 2007: October 1st) are invited to attend their district meeting. Coaches nominate players by submitting player profiles online by October 7th, midnight, in advance of the meeting. Only those players' names appear on the District Ballot.Every member coach in attendance at the District meeting will have the opportunity to present and promote any players from their roster who are listed on the District Ballot.    Each District selects 18 First Team and 12 Second Team players. From this list, the top 18 Junior and Senior players are offered roster positions for their District Showcase Teams. It is these teams that compete against each other in the Showcase in November. Freshmen and Sophomore players are eligible to make the District team and be on the All-State ballot, but may NOT compete in the Showcase games due to various IHSAA and NCAA rules.    (From ISCA website)

  • 10/23/07: The Indiana Youth Soccer / US Youth Soccer ODP is the elite player identification program in Indiana and the United States. The US Youth Soccer ODP has identified more players participating on professional and national teams than any other program. US Youth Soccer ODP teams are formed with each of the 55 US Youth Soccer State Associations and four regions, made up of the best players in the various age groups. At the state association level, pools of players are identified in each eligible age group, brought together as a team to develop their skill through training and competition. From the state pools and subsequent teams, players are identified for regional and national pools and teams.   • 9/24/07:  Paige cotton has been a fixture in the Indiana soccer community for almost 40 years.  Cotton will retire after this, his 39th season as head coach of the DePauw men's soccer program in Greencastle, Indiana.  Cotton, who will continue to serve as the University's Theodore M. Katula Director of Athletics after he retires from coaching.  A 1969 Springfield (Mass.) College graduate, Cotton began his DePauw coaching career shortly after graduation when he was hired to lead a three-year old DePauw soccer program. In 39 seasons, Cotton's teams have compiled a 381-186-33 record and he ranks ninth in victories among active Division III coaches. Cotton has established a program that hasn't suffered a losing season since 1981 and has made eight appearances in NCAA Division III Championship play. During a stretch of nine seasons from 1989 through 1997, the Tigers won all 54 regular season games in the Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference and Cotton earned the league’s coach of the year honors each year.  A professor of kinesiology at DePauw, Cotton received the Medora C. Adams Distinguished Professor Award in April, 2004. He has served on several NCAA soccer committees and recently chaired the championships selection process. Cotton will continue to serve on the NCAA Division III Membership Committee.  The Newton, Massachusetts native also was inducted into the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame in 2003. 

  • 9/19/07:  Recently in Danville, Indiana an 8 year old little girl was nearly abducted at a youth football game.  You can help by keeping a watchful eye on yours and others.   • 9/15/07:  FW Carroll’s September 15th 1-0 win at Warsaw marked the 300th career coaching victory for Charger Head Coach Rollie Clements. Clements is in his 20th year at Carroll and 25th overall with previous positions at FW Bishop Luers and Andrean (Merrillville). His career varsity record stands at 300-115-33. Congratulations Coach Clements on a tremendous milestone in coaching!

  • 9/12/07:  The 2007 High School season is really taking off.  The National Soccer Coach's Association of America released the first High School national and regional polls of the season Tuesday.  #1 Lawrence Central (8-0-0) has earned a (#3) ranking by  NSCAA in the first poll of the fall season.  Chaminade Prep (MO) heads up the national boy's poll at #1.  #2 Evansville Memorial (8-0-0) earned a (#20) ranking by the NSCAA.  The Region V rankings include Lawrence Central #1, Evansville Memorial #3, Carmel #8, Brownsburg #12 and North Central #14.  On the girl's side, Indiana did not have a team in the national poll.  #1 Carmel (4-1-2) is ranked (#8) in the region V top ten, followed by #2 Evansville Reitz (10-0-0) at (#9).  The National Soccer Coaches Association of America conducts national rankings of both boys and girls high school soccer programs as a service to its membership and the general public. These rankings are conducted and distributed to the media.  The intent of the high school rankings program is clearly outlined by the NSCAA Award Committee and supported by the Board of Directors:  a. To stimulate interest in boys and girls high school soccer on a national level; b. To recognize some of the schools with outstanding soccer programs;  c.   • 8/20/07:  It was an exciting week of soccer for almost every team in the state.  Teams finally got to play some meaningful competition after playing each other for two weeks of pre-season training.  In girl's action, #1 Bishop Dwenger went unbeaten in their first week with a 8-0 win vs Elmhurst and 0-0 Draw vs #20 Snider.  #2 Carmel went unbeaten with 1 win and 2 draws. (1-1, Zionsville; 2-2 #2 Assumption(KY); 3-0, #8 du Pont Manuel(KY).  #4 Noblesville went 2-0, dowing a tough Brebeuf Jesuit team 3-2 and Fishers 1-0.  #11 Penn knocked off two ranked teams, 2-1 win vs #19 Portage and 2-0 vs #10 Lake Central.  #16 Avon also was impressive with it's week of games.  The Lady Orioles knocked off #13 Hamilton S.E., 6-0, beat #20 FW Snider 2-0 and drew with #8 Canterbury 1-1. In boy's action defending state champion and #1 Carmel went 2-0 with a 2-1 win vs Ben Davis and a 4-1 win vs #14 Homestead.  #2 North Central went 1-0-1 with a 1-1 draw vs Lawrence North and a 2-1 win over #6 Canterbury.  #8 Brownsburg went 3-0 on the week with wins over McCutcheon 6-0, 2-0 #18 Zionsville and 4-1 #14 Brebeuf Jesuit.  #9 Chesterton, #10 Elkhart Central and #11 Cathedral all went 2-0 in week one.

  • 8/16/07:Indiana Youth Soccer, along with US Youth Soccer, is pleased to offer the National Youth License course this winter. The curriculum of the course is based in proper educational methods for coaching children twelve years old and younger. coaching Coordinators, Directors of Coaching, Coaches, and Administrators involved with children’s soccer should attend the course. *This course is also good for CEU’s with US Soccer. A total of 8 CEU’s are given upon successful completion of the course.Dates: November 30th, December 1st, 2nd, 7th, 8th, 9th (two weekends).   • 8/12/07:  Perry Kitchen (Roncalli / Chicago Magic / U.S. Residency) is rostered with the Under-17 National Team headed to Japan this week for cometition in the Toyota International Youth Championships.  The team is comprised of mostly players born in 1991 with (3) 1992 birth year players and (1) 1993 birth year.  It is a very young squad and is made up of players that will be in residency over the next year in Bradenton, Florida.  In the U.S. team's opener, Kitchen was not used in the 3-1 loss to Japan on August 10th.  In the U.S. team's second match, Kitchen went all 90 minutes for Coach Brian Maisonneuve's young team.  The U.S. team beat Australia 3-0 behind a first goal set-up from Kitchen in the 36th minute.  Kitchen's shot from outside the area was deflected to the U.S. Nick Millington and Millington put the rebound away.  From there the U.S. team pulled away from the Aussies in route to the 3-0 win.  The U.S. team will face the Japanese All-Stars on Sunday, August 14th to determine 3rd place.  READ MORE

  • 8/2/07:  US Youth Soccer is divided into four regions, which offer a regional camp for state association ODP teams in each eligible age group. The camps are designed to provide high level competition and training for participating players. During this training and competition, players who are capable of performing at a higher level of play are identified for possible national team camp, pool, or team participation. The camp concludes with tournament play among all participating regional ODP state association teams.  The US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program was formed in 1977 to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team will be selected for international competition; to provide high-level training to benefit and enhance the development of players at all levels; and, through the use of carefully selected and licensed coaches, develop a mechanism for the exchange of ideas and curriculum to improve all levels of coaching.                                                    The 1990 girl's team attended Regional Camp July 11-13 in DeKalb to train and compete against ODP teams from the other 13 Region II state association teams. 1990 Girls' Indiana ODP Team - Regional Camp Tournament Champions -  Sarah Orisich, Daniela Guiliani, Leslie Meyer, Samantha Faron, Alyssa Abels, Ashely Collins, Kateri Till, Allie VandeWater, Kaitlyn Kirkpatrick, Heather Sterling, Kaitlyn Blacha, Jessica Warren, Emma Gormley, Kristen Cooley, Jessica Gwin, LaurenRiggs, Alex Jenkins, COACHES: Aaron Blessing, Mike Aycock and Steve Dregits.                                                                The 1992 boy's Indiana ODP Team participated in Regional camp in Rockford, Illinois at Sportscore July 17-21, 2007.  The team concluded camp with (6) holdovers for the Region II team camp.   • 7/30/07:  The Carmel United Cyclones Under-19 girl's team won the USYSA National Championship.  The Cyclones knocked off PWSI Cardinals (VA) 2-0 to win the championship.  The Cyclones team went 1-1-1 in round-robin play and earned a spot in the final with an even goal differential.  The team's draw in round-robin play was against the PWSI Cardinals team (3-3).  It was a bit different in the final though.  Cyclones defender Jessica Boots (Carmel / Indiana University) scored in the 12th minute and the 90th minute to seal the win for the Cyclones.  She was named the tournament's MVP winning the Golden Boot Award. Each of the players on the Cyclones team plays at the Division I level in college soccer.  The team is coached by Gene Lindley. Congratulations ladies on a remarkable achievement!

  • 7/24/07:  Lauren Cheney again showed why she is drawing comparisons to Mia Hamm.  Cheney lifted the U.S. Under-20 National Team to a 2-1 victory over the full-Canadian Women's National Team on Monday night in Brazil.  Cheney scores in the 18th and 77th minute to move the U.S. in the Pan American Games Final versus host Brazil.  The match against Brazil will take place on Thursday, July 26th at the famed Maracana Stadium.  Canada outshot the U.S. team 15-6, but Canada's goal didn't come until the 88th minute.  U.S. goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher came up with some big saves, but none bigger than the penalty kick save late that preserved the game for the U.S.  The match against Brazil will feature all first-choice selections for the host side.  Every match the U.S. has played featured full-teams on the opposing side.  The test for the U.S. team on thursday night seems a bit much to overcome, but they have thus far done very well against their older competition  READ MORE
  • 7/23/07:  The 2007 Indiana High School Summer Soccer Showcase concluded Sunday in Pendleton, Indiana.  The Showcase featured (48) boy's teams from Indiana and Illinois.  Sporting Indiana FC and Pendleton Heights High School hosted this event.  The pre-season event featured some promising soccer.  Indiana teams that stood out on the weekend include Brownsburg (3-0) with wins over Columbus North, Merrillville and Northridge.   Brebeuf Jesuit controlled Group F with impressive wins over Harrison WL, Columbus East and Saint Rita Catholic (IL).  Chesterton and Lawrence Central both went (2-1) in Group H.  In Group I, Highland High School dispatched of Jeffersonville, Goshen and Heritage Christian to go (3-0).  Pike was impressive going (3-0) in Group K downing Carmel Catholic (IL), Valparaiso in penalty kicks and Noblesville in penalty kicks.  Jac Cen Del also went (3-0) by taking out Westview, New Castle and Vincennes Lincoln in Group L.  Concord and Westfield were the class of Group A, but Concord was able to nip Westfield in penalty kicks to go (3-0).  In Group B, Northwood went (3-0), Group C saw Perry Meridian go (3-0) and in Group E Lake Central went (3-0).  Lawrence North was impressive in Group D going (3-0) with wins over Avon, Munster and Bethany Christian.   For more information and complete results, visit the H.S.   • 7/19/07:  Lauren Cheney is making herself known right away in the Pan American Games.  Cheney is captain of the Under-20 Women's team at this event, facing teams fielding full-teams.  Cheney has 4 goals and 1 assist in the United State's three wins, 7-1 vs Paraguay, 3-1 vs Panama and 3-0 vs Argentina.  Opposing teams have taken notice since her hat-trick in the opener.  Cheney had 1 goal in the Panama match and 1 assist in the Argentina match.  The costly part of the U.S. team's win versus Argentina came when Cheney was given a straight red card in the 68th minute.  Argentina's Fabiana Vallejos fouled Cheney hard and Cheney retailiated.  Cheney now must sit out the quarterfinal match versus Mexico July 20th and possibly a semifinal match if the U.S. team advance.  The U.S. team is currently awaiting a ruling on any further suspension that Cheney might face.READ MORE

  • 7/14/07:  Perry Kitchen (Roncalli / Chicago Magic) has been chosen as apart of the core 17 players in the United States National Team Residency Program.  Kitchen will start in Bradenton, Florida on August 27th where he will attend the Edison Academy for education and be training full-time with the U.S. National Team Residency Program.

  • 7/14/07:  Dan Kapsalis has been at Carmel the last 14 years as it's head boy's soccer coach, a Carmel Alum and his brother Pete preceded him as head coach from 1985-1992.  It will feel differently this fall, not seeing a Kapsalis in charge of the Carmel program. Dan Kapsalis capped off an incredible career at Carmel, with his team finishing 23-0-0 last year in route to the IHSAA State Championship and a #1 National Ranking by the NSCAA.  Kapsalis's teams went 230-38-24 in his 14 seasons at the helm.  His overall career record is 343-58-33 which included seven seasons at Brebeuf Jesuit.  Carmel Athletic Director Jim Inskeep plans to have a new head coach in place by the end of the week, possible on an interim basis for the 2007 season.  In an email to our website, Dan Kapsalis noted that his new job with the NCAA and spending more time with his family were deciding factors in the decision to leave Carmel.  Best of luck Dan going forward!
  • 7/13/07:  Former Carmel High School midfielder Molly Kruger is transferring from UCLA to Butler. She must sit out the 2007 soccer season to meet NCAA residency requirements.  Kruger, a former state Player of the Year and high school All-American and U16 National Team Pool Member started two games for UCLA as a sophomore last year.  As a freshman in 2005, she was the No. 2 scorer for Indiana University.

  • 7/12/07: The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Soccer Team defeated Paraguay 7-1 in its first match at the 2007 Pan American Games as forward Lauren Cheney (Ben Davis / Carmel United / UCLA) notched a true hat trick. The match marked the first game of the competition at the new João Havelange Stadium.  The U.S. Under-20s will now focus on facing Panama on July 14, 2007 at Miécimo da Silva Sport Complex.   • 7/2/07:  Carmel United swept the girl's state cup for the first time this year and two of those teams are on their way to Dallas, Texas at Frisco Park.  The Carmel United Under-14 girl's team will face FC Stars of Massachusetts (MA - Region 1 Champions) on Wednesday, July 25th, Slammers FC (CAS - Region IV Champions) on Thursday, July 26th and Sting Royal 93 (TXN - Region IV Champions) on Friday, July 27th.  The Under-14 girl's final will be on Saturday, July 28th at 9:15 a.m.  The Carmel United Cyclones Under-19 girl's team will face 87 CASL Spartans Elite (NC - Region III Champions) on Wednesday, July 25th, Sereno White (AZ - Region IV Champions) on Thursday, July 26th and PWSI Cardinals (VA - Region I Champions) on Friday, July 27th.  The Under-19 girl's final will be on Sunday, July 29th at 7:30 a.m. Congratulations and best of luck to our Indiana teams at the National Championships!

  • 6/18/07: Perry Kitchen (Roncalli/Chicago Magic SC) and Max Lachowecki (Memorial/FC Evansville) will be attending U-15 National Team Training camp that takes place from June 17th to June 24th in Somerset, New Jersey.  Kitchen remains a mainstay with the age-group pool, after attending numerous camps and competitions with the team. It will be Max's first camp with the Nation Team Pool.  Kitchen is one of two players that captain the team in training camps and competition.   The camp will be serving two purposes.  One, to determine the residency roster for the Fall.  Players who earn an invitation to the U.S. National Team Residency program will attend school and train in Florida.  The second purpose of the training camp is to provide the Under-20 Mens National Team an opponent as they prepare for the Under-20 World Cup.  Scheduled events at the training camp include a match against the Under-20 Men's team and a panel discussion with the Underr-20 team and staff about life as either a professional soccer player or college student-athlete.  Kitchen recently played for the National Team in Argentina where his team played some of South America's top competition.  The team beat Boca Juniors U15's 3-1, drew Argentina's U15 team 2-2, fell to Uruguay's U-15 team 1-2 and rounded the trip with a 2-1 win over Gimnasia FC.

  • 6/17/07:  The Annual North/South Senior Girls All-Star Game was played on Saturday.  The North side took this year's contest, a 2-1 win over the South squad.  Lauren Prow (Valparaiso) and Lindsey Hyduk (SB St. Joseph's) scored the goals for the North side.  Indiana Player of the Year Julie Scheidler (Bishop Chatard/Notre Dame) scored the lone goal for the South team.  Many girls saw limited playing time due their upcoming USYSA Region II Championships.

  • 6/7/07: The National Soccer Festival will encompass 10 games from Aug. 23-25 at the Fort Wayne Sport Club. Men’s and women’s teams will participate including: Indiana’s men’s team, both of Notre Dame’s teams, and teams from New Mexico, Virginia, Michigan State, Akron, Toledo, Xavier, Illinois-Chicago and IUPUI.   The festival will feature some of the best soccer in the county.  It also features Herman Trophy winner Joseph Lapira from Notre Dame, U-20 National team member Ofie Sarkodie of Indiana University, 2005 Indiana Player of the Year P.J. Wilson (Canterbury) of New Mexico and 2007 All-American El Hadji Dieng (Pike) who will be with Xavier.   • 6/4/07: The 2007 Indiana State & Challenge Cups have come to a close and there were some great matches in Ft. Wayne. The State Cup, apart of the National Championship Series will see the winners move on to the Region II Championships in Des Moines, Iowa June 22nd through the 27th.  Carmel United is one Cup shy of sweeping every age group in this year's female competition.  Only the Under-18 final is to be decided.  The Carmel United Crossfire will face Dynamo 89 in the final on a yet to be determined date.  In the boy's State Cup there have been 5 different clubs that have taken home a championship in the seven age groups. The Under-18 final is still to take place between Westside United 89 and the 5-time state champion Carmel United Cosmos, which will round out all age-groups.   The Ft. Wayne Fever Academy were the only club to win multiple State Cups on the boy's side, winning the Under-16 State Cup and the Under-19 State Cup.

  • 6/2/07:  FC Indiana will face FIFA World Cup finalists New Zealand, 23rd in the latest FIFA rankings, on August 14, 2007 at Kuntz Stadium in Indianapolis. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET. Two days earlier, on August 12, New Zealand will play 2004 Olympic champions USA in Chicago. New Zealand will travel to the US as they prepare for their tough World Cup fixtures against hosts China, 2004 silver medalists Brazil and Algarve Cup runners-up Denmark in September.  New Zealand schedule of international matches in the US: August 12: New Zealand at USA, Chicago August 14: New Zealand at FC Indiana, Indianapolis FC Indiana Director of Operations Anton Maksimov said the fixtures against New Zealand and Ghana (June 22, 2007) were a coup for the  club.   • 5/20/07:  Greg Terhune (Lawrence North/Marshall University) signed a temporary contract with the Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer.  Terhune joined the team this weekend in New York for their game against the Red Bulls.  Terhune missed most of his senior year with a broken arm.  He played in seven matches, posting two shutouts.  In his junior season of 2005, he started all 19 matches for Marshall and posted shutouts in four of the last seven matches, blanking South Carolina, Memphis, Kentucky and FIU. He recorded a career-best eight saves in a shutout of South Carolina and was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week Oct. 17 following that performance. He was in goal for all but 43:45 of Herd's streak of 479:17 without allowing a goal that season and allowed just one goal in six-game stretch from Oct. 16-Nov. 9, 2005.

  • 4/19/07:  Several of Indiana's finest players have been playing with their respective regional teams all over the world in the last couple of months. Harrison Petts (Zionsville/ Carmel United) made the Region II 1991 team that traveled to Rosario, Argentina February 16-25.  Petts has been a steady member of the 91 Regional team.  The team played in the Argentina International Festival against some of the top club competition in South America.                                                         Colleen Diemer '92 (Plainfield/Carmel United), '92 Sarah Killion- Ft. Wayne/Fort Wayne Fever Academy), '91 CJ Rhoades (Plainfield/Carmel United) played with the 1992 and 1991 age groups in Costa Rica April 9-18.  Each of the United State's four regions sent a team to compete against U20 National teams from Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica and Chile.                                                                                              The 1990 Region II boy's team took Ray Gaddis (North Central/Indy Burn) and Baba Omosegbon (Shattuck Prep/Indy Burn) to Loch, France for a tour that took place from April 1-10.  Both players have been steady contributors for the Region II 90 team over the last couple of years.     The 1992 Region II boy's team is in the midst of a tour in England and Scotland.  Perry Kitchen (Roncalli/Chicago Magic), Dylan Mares (Mishawaka/Chicago Magic), A.J. Corrado (Zionsville/Carmel United) and Lance Davis (Huntingburg/Cutters SC) are each playing with the team this week.  The tour began on April 15th and concludes April 22nd.  The team faced Middlesbrough FC's U16 team on Monday evening and defeated them 2-0.  The team fell two days later to the Celtic U16 team 2-1.  The team faces off Thursday night with the Rangers Academy U16 team and will conclude play on Saturday against the Edgerton Academy team.  The team will take in sites in Scotland and England which includes an FA Premier match at Old Trafford featuring Manchester United playing Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon.

  • 4/14/07: Lauren Cheney (UCLA/Ben Davis/Carmel United) entered the game in the 92nd minute and finished off the Mexican side with a great finish from the top of the 18 yard box.  Two minutes left in the game, Cheney played Heather O'Reilly in on the left flank, then served a ball across the top of the box to an on-running Cheney who buried a right footer in the left corner.  The final, 5-0 for the American Women in their first match since opening training camp for this year's World Cup.

  • 4/4/07: Lauren Cheney (UCLA/Ben Davis/Carmel United) and Keeley Dowling (Tennessee/Carmel/Carmel United) have been named to the 32 member residency roster for the 2007 Women's World Cup in China.  During the next four months players will be in and out of training, competing for spots on the team that will represent the US in China.  Cheney earned her first cap earlier this year at the Four Nations Cup.  Cheney is proving herself quite capable against most of the veterans in the mix to this point.  She is one of five college players in residency.  Dowling was captian of the US U-19 team in 2002 at the FIFA World Championships starting and playing in all 6 matches, where the U.S. knocked off Canada in overtime to win the tournament.  Dowling, a defender earned All SEC first team honors twice in her career for the Volunteers and was a semifinalist for the MAC Herman Trophy her junior year.  She has accumulated 23 caps for the Youth National Team program.

  • 3/19/07: High School programs are in the process of hiring new coaches on both the girls and boys side of the game throughout the state.  Our state has a number of openings in soccer-rich areas like Brownsburg, Elkhart, Fishers, Westfield and Zionsville.  A few schools have made their selections, while some are still in the process.  Hamilton Southeastern High School in Fishers selected John Stollmeyer as its boy's varsity head coach.  Stollmeyer is a 1985 graduate of Indiana University where he was a three-time All-American, winning two national titles. Stollmeyer was also a High School All-American twice, played for the U.S. National Team in the 1987 Pan Merican Games 1988 Olympics, 1990 World Cup and the World University Games while at IU.  Stollmeyer is a member of the Indiana University Athletic Hall of Fame and the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame.  Stollmeyer is currently coaching at the Fishers Soccer Club and his new team will include his sons Michael (11th grade) and Jake (9th grade).  Stollmeyer replaces Peter Baah who coached the Royals program for the last 4 years.  Fishers High School in the same school district had hired Pete Kapsalis as its boy's varsity head coach.  Kapsalis is a Michigan State University graduate where he excelled on the field.  Coach Kapsalis's history in the community runs deep, having coached at every level in the state of Indiana.


  • 3/2/07:  The Indiana Youth Soccer Association announced the final dates and times of the 2007 State and Challenge Cups.  Venues across the state will host teams on May 17-20 for the preliminary round weekend.  The Indiana State Cup is held in accordance with the US Youth Soccer National Championships.  The finals weekend will be June 1-3 in Ft. Wayne at Heffner Park next to The Plex, indoor soccer facility.

  • 2/15/07: Indiana is fast - becoming a state in which college coaches are recruiting heavily.  Last week was signing day for soccer student-athletes and many of the state's finest players made it official by signing with the college of their choice.  Hamilton Southeastern High School in Fishers had (8) girls sign letters of intent last week from a team that won sectional and regional championships in 2006.  Brooke Shafer and Erin Duffey signed with Butler University, Jacki Eft with Ball State, Stefani Thacker with Presbyterian College (SC), Stacey Howell with Delta State (GA), Ali Vyain with Nova Southeastern (FL), Taylor Schueth with DePauw and Katie Rowlison with Lincoln Christian (IL).

  • 2/13/07: The rare mix of all the right stuff makes Perry Kitchen our first Upper 90 profile.  Hoosierfutbol.com will feature a new profile each month as we look to showcase some of Indiana's finest student-athletes that stand out in soccer.  Kitchen (15) is an Indianapolis resident, Roncalli High School student and plays for the Chicago Magic soccer Club.  A young person that is taking the Indiana soccer community by storm.  We will follow Perry closely as he participates with the Region II ODP team and with the Under 15 National Team in the coming months.

  • 2/13/07: Bishop Chatard senior and Notre Dame recruit Julie Scheidler was named the Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year for 2006 in girl's soccer.  Scheidler led Chatard this season to a 12-3-1 record, recording 20 goals and 11 assists with a career total of 73 goals, 37 assists and 183 total points.  Scheidler plays for Carmel United during the club season. Carmel senior and Evansville recruit Robby Lynch was named the Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year for 2006 in boy's soccer.  Lynch led Carmel to and undefeated season and state championship.  Lynch tallied 13 goals and 8 assists during the 2006 campaign.

  • 1/25/07: Ian Bennett (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Thomas More) was drafted #11 overall by the Charleston Battery of the USL 1st Division.  Bennett recently concluded a stellar college career at Marian College where he set scoring records and broke his own.

  • 1/16/07: Ben Davis and Carmel United Alum Lauren Cheney has been named to the U.S. Women's National team for the Four Nation's Cup in China.  The tournament runs from January 26-29 in Guangzhou.  Cheney, currently at UCLA is one of three women making the team and attempting to earn their first caps with the full women's national team

  • 1/14/07: The Indiana State Cup was drawn today at the Radisson in downtown Indianapolis at the Annual General Meeting for IYSA.  There weren't too many surprises to thsi year's cup announcements.  Indiana is in its second year of the (16) team format of State Cup.  Each age group will have no more than (16) teams, with (4) teams per group involved in Cup play.  Each group is led by the seeded team.  Indiana Youth Soccer Executive Director Don Rawson was very clear as to the nature of the process.  "We feel we can find the best sixteen teams in each age group by doing it this way.  Only one team is going to regionals, so we need to do the best job we can in selecting the field."  The state will certainly see some complaints, but overall each age group looks balanced and full of teams that can contend.

  • 1/12/07: Josh Tudela (Evansville North/ Evansville Elite) was selected by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the Major League Soccer Superdraft held in Indianapolis Friday.  Tudela was taken 20th overall in the second round and it was the Galaxy's second pick of the draft.    Tudela was the Big Ten's Player of the Year for 2006 as well as Third Team All-American by the NSCAA.  Tudela was apart of Indiana ODP and Region II ODP programs in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

  • 1/2/07: Julie Scheidler (Bishop Chatard/Carmel United) and Mary Kreger (Noblesville/Carmel United) recently returned from the Region II 1988 Interregional event in Carson, California.  The two performed well for Region II and is an event designed to evaluate the players from each of the four regions of the USYSA ODP programs. 

  Scheidler, a Notre Dame recruit recently earned both Academic and
  performance All-American awards from the NSCAA.  Julie was also 1st
  Team All-State and Academic All-State for 2006-2007.  Kreger, a Duke
         recruit was also 1st Team All-State in 2006-2007.  Both ladies were 2nd
         Team All-State selections as juniors in 2005-2006.

         Congratulations to both as they move on into their club season!

  • 12/22/06: The Spring 2007 Indiana League has been announced.  The Indiana League was formed in 2006, giving teams from all over the state to play soccer at the highest level possible in the state of Indiana.  Teams are either placed in the Premier or 1st Division for competition.  League play starts in March and runs through the end of May.

  • 12/15/06: US Youth Soccer will take all (4) regional ODP teams and it's National Team to the Disney Soccer Showcase in Orlando, Florida which runs December 27-30.  Baba Omosegbon (Indianapolis/Indy Burn) and Raymon Gaddis  (North Central/Indy Burn) were named to the Region II roster for the showcase.

  • 12/9/06: Thirty-Nine student-athletes are recognized by the NSCAA for outstanding achievement on and off of the soccer field.  Indiana is quietly churning out some of the top players in the country thanks to an improved club system and outstanding work of the Indiana Youth Soccer Association.

  • 11/20:06: Notre Dame Soccer is as successful as it gets in 2006.  The two programs make-up the most successful in college soccer this year.  Irish men and women have combined for most wins in nation (38) while joining UCLA as only schools with both teams in the NCAA quarterfinal round.

  • 11/20:06: The district showcase weekend for high school soccer is always topped off with the All-State awards banquet held on the Saturday night of showcase weekend.  The district games are a big part of the selection process at the All-State meetings where players are voted on by the Indiana Soccer Coach's Association.

  • 8/30/06:  Indiana has lost a true starter when it comes to our sport.  Don Kime of Griffith passed away August 22nd at the age of 83.  Kime founded the Griffith Youth Soccer Association, Northwest Indiana Soccer League (NISL) and the Northwest Indiana Refereess Association.  Kime was also the first head coach at Highland High School.
